Many islands are within walking distance of the city center. The National Fort facing the castle and the island of Grand-Bé are accessible at low tide. On the latter is the tomb Chateaubriand.
Only the fort of Petit Bé is accessible by boat only.
Take a stroll on the marina of Saint-Malo. Located at the foot of the ramparts, the port welcomes sailboats and old rigs. It is also the embarkation point for the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey .
Every 4 years, the port is the starting point of the famous Route du Rhum , the solo race across the Atlantic.
